What you need to apply
Diploma equivalence: your Bulgarian Matura is recognised as a general university entrance qualification once the university confirms the equivalence during registration.
German certificate: most bachelor's programmes are taught in German, so you need a recognised certificate around B2–C1 unless the programme is explicitly English-taught.
MedAT for medicine and dentistry: every candidate for these two subjects sits the same entrance exam in July, Bulgarian diploma or not.
Online registration (Zulassung): you register directly with the university within its admission period, and for programmes with an admission procedure that period is already in spring. A missed slot means waiting for the next intake.
What it costs to live there
Austria charges EU citizens no tuition at public universities, so the ÖH student union fee — 26.20 € a semester in 2026/27 — is close to your only fixed cost. Vienna is the most expensive city to live in; a room runs from about 450 € to 750 € a month, while Graz or Innsbruck are somewhat cheaper. As an EU citizen you can work alongside your studies without a separate permit.
