What you need to apply
Studielink account: every application goes through the national Studielink portal, not the university's own website, and you only need a login for the university's own systems after admission.
Numerus fixus deadline: selective programmes like medicine or psychology close on 15 January, months before the general 1 May deadline for everything else.
English proficiency: an IELTS or TOEFL score is standard for English-taught bachelor's programmes; some universities accept a Cambridge certificate or a strong school-leaving English grade instead.
Diploma evaluation: the university checks your Bulgarian diploma average against its own entry profile, since the Netherlands has no single national grade conversion table.

What it costs to live there
As an EU student you pay the statutory tuition fee — 2,771 € for 2027/28, adjusted every year — a fraction of what non-EU students pay. Rent is the real cost: a room runs from about 500 € in a smaller city to over 800 € in Amsterdam, and student housing is genuinely scarce, so you should start looking the moment you accept an offer. Working alongside your studies is allowed without extra permits as an EU citizen.
