What you need to apply

Language track decision: Belgium runs separate Dutch-speaking (Flemish) and French-speaking university systems, plus a growing number of English-taught programmes, each with its own admission office.

Direct application to the university: most Flemish universities accept applications straight through their own online portal rather than a central clearing house.

Entrance exam for medicine and dentistry: unlike most subjects, Flemish medicine and dentistry programmes require passing a joint entrance exam before enrolment counts.

Legalised diploma: your school diploma needs an apostille or legalisation stamp plus an official translation into Dutch, French or English, matching the language of the programme.

What it costs to live there

Official tuition for EU students at Flemish public universities runs around 1,160 € a year, though the exact figure varies by programme, so rent again decides most of your budget. A room in Leuven or Ghent typically runs 400 € to 650 € a month, less than Brussels. As an EU student you may work part-time alongside your studies without extra paperwork.
