You apply through UCAS. For entry in the 2027/28 academic year, applications open on 12 May 2026 and run until:
- 15 October 2026, 18:00 UK time – Medicine and Graduate Entry Medicine
- 13 January 2027, 18:00 UK time – all other undergraduate courses
Many engineering, mathematics and medicine courses also require an additional admissions test.
Postgraduate
You apply directly through the My Imperial platform. There is no single overall deadline: some courses run separate application rounds, while others accept applications until places are full. Popular courses can close as early as January, so apply early.
Indicative deadlines:
- January – March – recommended period for competitive courses and scholarships
- by 18 June – for applicants who need a student visa
- by 1 August – for applicants who do not need a visa, if the course is still accepting applications
2027/28 academic year
- Autumn term: 2 October – 17 December 2027
- Spring term: 8 January – 24 March 2028
- Summer term: 29 April – 30 June 2028
Courses
Medicine (MBBS)
- Duration: 6 years
- Fee: £58,600 per year
- Competition: around 6 applicants per place
- Deadline: 15 October 2026
Requirements: an overall average of at least 5.80, plus state matriculation exams in biology and chemistry with grades of 6.00 and 5.95 (in either order).
UCAT: a mandatory test (University Clinical Aptitude Test). It can only be sat once within a given application cycle, in the year of application. Registration opens on 23 June 2026 (14:00 UK time), and the deadline is 16 September 2026 (15:00 UK time). The test fee outside the UK is £115.
Interview: shortlisted applicants are invited to Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) with academics and medical professionals.
English language: Cambridge English with a minimum of 176 overall and no less than 169 in each component; for the higher requirement – 185 overall and no less than 176 in each component.
Computing (Computer Science)
- Duration: 3 years
- Deadline: 13 January 2027, 18:00 UK time
- Competition: around 13 applicants per place
Minimum requirements: an overall average of at least 5.70 and at least 5.95 in the subjects most relevant to the course. Computing is an extremely competitive course, and meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place – in practice near-perfect results are needed, especially in maths.
- If maths is not one of your specialist subjects, a strong matriculation exam in maths can help, but Imperial has to individually confirm whether the level is sufficient.
- Specialist maths with strong grades plus a state matriculation exam in maths usually meets the requirement.
TMUA: all applicants sit the Test of Mathematics for University Admission – a computer-based, multiple-choice test that assesses mathematical thinking, logic and problem-solving. For 2027 entry, the test windows are 12–16 October 2026 and 4–8 January 2027. Registration for the October sitting closes on 28 September 2026.
English language: IELTS at least 6.5, with no component below 6.0.
Mechanical Engineering (MEng)
- Duration: 4 years
- Deadline: 13 January 2027, 18:00 UK time
Minimum requirements: an overall average of at least 5.70 and at least 5.95 in the relevant subjects. The safest profile is maths and physics as specialist subjects, a matriculation exam in maths and/or physics, and grades of around 5.95–6.00 in both.
ESAT: all applicants sit the Engineering and Science Admissions Test, covering the Mathematics 1, Mathematics 2 and Physics modules. For 2027 entry, the test windows are 12–16 October 2026 and 4–8 January 2027. The test has no pass/fail threshold – the score is used to compare applicants and is an important part of selection.
Interview: part of the admissions process.
